Editorial Director/Publishing Director, Seven Dials/Trapeze
What we offer
This role is based in our London office, as part of an experienced team in a creative, friendly and dynamic working environment. It offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Who we are and what we do
As the publishing home of The Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick, Fearne Cotton, Sarah Millican, Alan Partridge and The Hairy Bikers, and megabrands such as The Ordnance Survey and Glastonbury Festival, Orion is a commercial non-fiction powerhouse. Across Seven Dials, Orion Spring and Trapeze, we aim to bring the best publishing to the greatest variety of people. From agenda-setting books that start conversations, to entertainment stars, heritage brands and award-winning cookery and lifestyle, we are unique in the industry in that we truly have something for everyone. We are a company where every story matters. And we want your story to start here too.
What you’ll be doing
This is an exciting time of change for non-fiction at Orion. After some internal promotions, we’re looking to bring in the very best senior editorial talent who will shape our future and lead the Seven Dials and Trapeze lists to even further growth.
There are two roles available – one focusing on Seven Dials, the other on Trapeze. The job title will be shaped around the right person for the job, but given that the role will require driving the non-fiction publishing of each list, we anticipate it will be Editorial Director/Publishing Director level. You will be responsible for landing and bringing the biggest books to market, expanding the range of our commissioning and driving the strategy of each list forward, identifying gaps and market trends.
Who we’re looking for
Whether you’re excited by books that tap into the zeitgeist or voice-driven narrative non-fiction, if you love working with celebrities and influencers, or with ordinary people with extraordinary stories, then we want to hear from you. If you are an ambitious, creative and entrepreneurial thinker; if you have a track record of acquiring bestsellers, heading up a list and inspiring a team, then get in touch.
This is an opportunity for someone whose experience in acquiring and commissioning commercial non fiction has given them a vision for growth, and who is ready for a new challenge. We are looking for a publisher who is excited by profit, and who can lead by example, inspiring a team of enthusiastic editors to build a list that will engage and stimulate the largest number of readers, and to continue to create the biggest quality commercial bestsellers in the market.
Reporting to the Executive Publisher of Trapeze, Seven Dials and Orion Spring, the role will have strategic responsibility for each list, and a small number of direct reports.
Hachette employs people on the basis of their abilities. We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds.
